Birdeyes a person who make miracle

When I am 6 years old, I always looking forward to become an adventurer who travel around world, and go to the most dangerous place in the world seeking for treasure. After several years, I become bigger and my dreams change to become a scientist to invent special machines for making foods and clothing. However, as my age grows bigger and bigger my dreams become more reality and relate to my daily life and the dreams I have before run far away from me. Maybe they are still hiding deeply inside my heart represent a wonderful memory of my childhood. That’s my thought before I read the book “Frozen in Time” I never realize that these dreams are achievable, but Birdeyes achieve it. He become an adventurer who walking into the dangerous mountain rage finding the way to save people from horrible disease. He is also a hunter who across the forest hunting for the most delicious food in the world, such as beaver, a variety of birds including hawks(page 57). He is able to eat fresh meat everyday with out any prejudice which is used to be one of my dreams when the amount of meat is controlled by my mother. Nonetheless, he is a scientist who invent refrigerator by using several simple objects: salt, ice, and an electric fan which only cause him 7 dollars.(page 92) Bob always choose low technology over high and turned the scientific knowledge to economic opportunity.(page 49) That is the part I admire him the most, because I think the scientific knowledge is only useful to all of us when it turns from a theory on a piece of paper to an invention which can be used by every people. 

As yo can see, Birdeyes’ experience is really important to me because he achieved my dreams and gives me the spirit that nothing is impossible unless you never try. In another way, I think he is the same kind of person as me. He never have nothing to do and he is always working and tireless. Just like me, I never let myself rest, I bring my kindle with me every where which allows me to read whenever I want. As a result, if I have chance I would like to try what Bob has done, not only an adventurer, a scientist, but also a hunter a fisherman and a gastronome, because since I was a little I am a person full of the spirit of adventure and looking forward to try different experiences. Although maybe the education, the society limits my dream and make me gently become as same as the people who define succeed and life by money and power., but Bob help me to open an exactly new world which is also succeed and wonderful with excited adventures and explorations. To sum up, I think I am going to do what Bob has done and become a person who can make miracle. I think it will be more fun to live like that than working and repeating the same life in a mechanical city. Thanks for reading!

Movie and Book

Word or image

I don’t usually watch the movie of the story which I have read before. In my opinion, when you are reading a book, you build the image of the characters and the scene by yourself. Therefore, the image of them depends on your imagination and the information give by the book. However, the movie give you a image of everything, and all you need to do is watch and have fun. The good or bad about the movie mostly depends on how well actors act. You don’t need to think too much and focus on small details to build a character in your mind and the expression will be more vivid. 

For example, in the movie of <Pobby and Dingan>, it helps me to understand some of the part which I confused about in the book, because from the expression and action you can understand better than just reading the worlds. However, it also limits your imagination when you are watching the movie. The image of the characters will stick in your head, so if they act badly, you may hate that character, too. Also a big difference from the book to the movie is the movie usually will cut or change some of the scene in the book because of the time limit which may disappointed the book readers.

To tell you the truth, I like both reading the book and watching the movie, because I enjoy using imagination to create and understand the book: Receiving the image and interesting expression is also a joy to me. However, what I highly not recommend is to do both of them together, because their may be a conflict between your imagination and the image create by the movie which is really painful to me. I don’t like the feeling of the overthrow of the image in my head, such as the father in book my imagination and movie is totally different which is hard for me to adept and understand the story. In the book father is more drunk and careless about his familyand always dreaming, but in the book he gives me a expression of a hardworking and a little bit aggressive.

As you can see, I can adept both word and image, but they can’t go together.

Thoughts about the play

It was the first play I watched in America, and actually, I was quite surprised about how well the play went on. Before I went to the play, I didn’t take it really serious, because I thought: how well can high school student act and they are not professional! However, the truth crash my foolish thinking like the sand castle in the tsunami. THEY ACT SO WELL! IT IS UNBELIEVEBLE! AMAZIMG! I can’t tell how fluently they speak the ancient language and how vivid their expression are, but I will try my best to explain.

The story is most about Galileo. It start with how Galileo “invent” the telescope which inspire by other’s invention. He wants to sell the telescope to make money for his family and his research. Unfortunately, the truth of who is the inventor has been found out really soon. Then he use the telescope which is made by himself found out that the sun is the central, but not the earth. He announced his discovery, and soon became unwelcome by his country because of the pope. After that He traveled to Rome. Because of the problem of the social class his daughter could not married with the young man she loved which really broke her heart. Finally, Galileo has been asked to go to the court and took back his idea of earth is not the center of universe, because no one wants to look through the telescope and find out the truth on the court. They don’t care about truth but profit. 

The play ended with a discussion between Galileo’s mature’s son and a little boy about the witch. The little thinks his teacher is a witch because of the shadow on the window. However, after he saw the truth of the witch which is his teacher is cooking, but not making poison. He still didn’t believe that and ran away. This is my favorite scene in the play and I really like this way of ending. It shows me that the sorriness of Galileo because people believe what they think and heard better than what they saw. My comments for that is: this is not a era for science and unfortunately Galileo born in that period of time and he failed in struggling with it. However, it is not a ending I expect which makes feel is not finished and a little bit confused. Maybe is I don’t really understand all of them because of the language they use is hard.

I really recommend people to see this play. It is not a play for enjoyment or entertaining, but you will think a lot and learn a lot after you watch the play. It is not just about a historical story or autobiography about Galileo, but show people the problem of the society and the original sin on people. All in all I suggest everybody to watch this play.

Thoughts on a dramalist

Thoughts about Bertolt Brecht

Bertolt Brecht is a German dramatist and a poet who born in 1898 February 10th. His father is the owner of a paper maker factory. His mother has cancer when she was young, so Brecht was weak and unhealthy when he was little. He started to go to school when he was 6 years old, and during his life of study, he published his first article <harvest> on a magazine for student. He started to write article for newspaper and published his first drama <bible>. He work for a general office of newspaper, and he become famous by a drama called <the drums at midnight>. The biggest turning point of his life is after the reichstag fire on 1933, he start to run away from German and travel almost to every place in Europe. He met Yan fang Mei and She Lao during his life of exile. The experience during this give him lots of inspiration of creating drama. He thinks that people can’t change when they live, but they can choose how to live. Finally, he died in 1956 August 14th because of the heart attack. To sum up, I learned the spirit of never give up and you can your way happily depend on how you think about it and how you choose to live from his story.

Thoughts about Galileo

Galileo was an Italian who born on 1564 February 15th. He was a great mathematician, physicist and astronomer. He is the first person who prove that the objects in different shape or size which have the same weight have the same speed of falling. Because of the most of the idea he believed stands the opposite side of what the church believed at that time, he had been judged to stay in the prison for rest of his life. However, Galileo is also a Christian, and he believe that there is no conflict between science and belief; He believes that people explore and discover truth by science and pure there soul by praying to God.

I learned about him in my Modern World History class, we even have a debate on whether what should Galileo do when the pop told him to write down the statement of repentance. I supported the idea of holding the truth and never give up, although that way is hard and seemed impossible, but I believe what Galileo did help the development of the society and he encourage groups of people to challenge the “truth” which may not be true. That’s how human develop themselves. 

In class writing

In my opinion, this quote tell us that only when you lost something, you will find how important it is in your heart. Therefore, I think Kellyanne represent opal in this book. Her father cares more about his dream about finding opals, but take less care to Kallyanne and his family. Also her brother Ashmol don't have really good relationship with her. However, as the story goes on, while father lost Pobby and Dingan which make Kellyanne sick and become weaker everyday. The whole family start to worried about Kellyanne, and Ashmol generally realized Kellyanne is really important in his life. He starts helping her about Pobby and Dingan from the purpose to help his parents to go back their work and make the life normal turn to help her as well as he can to make her feel better. Although she has gone at last but she lived forever in everyone's daily life and mind. She become muchmore important then opal. We can see that from the turning of his father's attitude towards family, and how Ashmol spent opal so quick just to make Kellyanne feels better. To sum up, there are many things which is really important in our life, we won't realize how important they are unless we lost them.

Thoughts about he book

It never takes me so long to read a page of the book, but it nearly take me about 6 minutes for each page on <Pobby and Dingan>. It is not just because it is written in English, but also the stories happen in the book attract me deeply. Also, it resonate a same feeling when I was little. As a result, I really enjoy reading this book and having lots of fun in reading it and there are several reasons why I enjoy reading this book.

First, the story between Ashmol and Kellyanne let me remember a really joyful memory when I was little. The relationship between Ashmol and Kellyanne is kind of same between my relationship with my sister when we are little. At that time, I was about 8 years old and my sister was 1 year older than me. We always had argument on small things, such as decisions on eating food and changing the channel on TV; Because, she’s older than me, parents always told her to follow my decisions which always made her crying. Just like what happen in the book when Ashmol asked mom why she prepare food for Pobby and Dingan, from page 6 “ I don’t know how many times I had sat at dinner table saying: ‘Mun why do you have to set places for Pobby and Dingan? They aren’t even real.” From that quote we know that Ashmol probably had the same feeling as my sister; he felt that his parents care his sister more than him which made him treat his sister’s imagination friends badly. Although Ashmol always had argument with her sister, he actually really loves her and try his best to help her when she was sick, and we can know that from the quote on page 27 “ And although I thought my sister was nuts, I didn’t like to see her like this and hear chucking up in the dunny.” It is same as my relationship with my sister when we were little, although we argued and sometimes having fights, but we loved each other and helped each other when we needed. For example, I was short and weak when I was little and some of child in the neighborhood always liked to bully me; Every time my sister heard that she would help me to beat the kids who bullied me and warned them to not bullied me again. That’s why I like to read this book. It took me back to the happiness memories and I really enjoy that.

Finally, I think that having a imagination friend is really cool. I used to watch a movie called < Marry and Marx > which the main character in that movie also had a imagination friend. I always dream about having a imagination friend. However, I am always having lots of real friends, so the imagination friends don’t seem that important to me, but it is a really wonderful things to know the feeling to have a imagination friend, so that is another reason I enjoy reading this book.

God the guide for Marjane

A big white cloth with white hair, white mustache and white face floating in the sky. Who’s that guy? “It was funny to see how much Marx and God looked like each other.”(Book Persepolis page 13) Yes, that is God who acts like a grandfather and sometimes a friend to Marjane. He never looks holy or untouchable like the god we have in our real life. A warm huge give by him is always on time when Marjane needs support or confused. Unknown by other people he exists in Marjane’s dream and mind.He guides her through every problem she meets and establish a view of the world for Marjane. Therefore, I think God is Marjane's guide in her daily life, as well as filling the hole in her family, such as grandpa and friend.

First, God  acts like a grandfather and friend to Marjane who support her idea and having discussion with her. He is a very good listener better than Marjane’s parents. For example, Marjane’s family pays less attention on listening to Marjane’s idea and dream then their work, so Marjane needs God to support her and listen to her.  Also when Marjane is sad or disappointed God will act like her grandfather and gives her a deep hug. For example, from page 53 “The only place I felt safe was in the arms of my friend”(Persepolis page 53) This tell us that Marjane treats God like friend, but actually this is not just the relationship between two friends. From the gentle hug and kindness eyes to Marjane, we can tell that he takes the place of Marjane’s grandpa who died years ago in the prison. Nonetheless, from page 8 we know that God has a big discussion with Marjane every night and God said she is the only and best choice choice for prophet which support her dreams. Because of the more western way to educated in Marjane’s family,it allowed Marjane to become free on thinking, action and wearings. However, it is really hard for Marjane to find a friend in her age group to talk about her dream and things about society, because Marjane is precocity and start to thinking and query about things around her.  Therefore God is very important to Marjane, because he filled the hole of Marjane’s grandfather and friend and give her mentally support. He become the only person who can communicate with Marjane and bring her support and happiness.

Second, Gods become a guide to Marjane who gives her an idea of freedom and equality which affects her a lot in the future. For example, the braveness to speak out in a country which is feudalistic and superstition. I think that kind of ability is given by god, and we can know that from the quote below.  It is really interesting that God looks like a white person which is different from people in Iran, and I think that it is writer’s hint about how Marjane think about Iran in a view of more western way. According to the book where gives a description about God:“It was funny to see how much Marx and God looked like each other. Though Marx’s hair is a bit curler.”From this quote we understand that God gives Marjane a more open view of the world; She accepts thinking from the western country, such as Marx. She never limited herself by what other told her what she always does is question what she knows and find out the truth by herself.  We can know that from what Marjane does in her school, she always questions against teacher about what she thinks is not truth and justice.Also from page 33 show us how Marjane find out the biggest problem in Iran is the difference in social classes. This is not normal for a girl who is just six years old to discover the problem for her country.In my opinion, these kind of ability to inquirer the truth is inculcate by God who gives her a more western ways of thinking, such as communist: she thinks everybody should be equal.Therefore I think God is a guide to Marjane, he gives her a more western ways of thinking and the ability to seek for the truth.

To sum up, God plays a very important role in Marjane's life which guide her to a totally different life from others. Because of God Marjane become a girl who seek for truth and freedom which also push her away from her family and country. What is really interesting to talk about is How God appears in Marjane’s mind,  by her experience in French school or the dream of being a prophet? We don’t know if is these  influences God makes on Marjane which make her life really different to the normal kids in Iran good or not for her. Maybe only the writer knows the answer of this question.

 Goals for this year

Time past so quick; I haven’t realized that the end of the first quarter is coming until I checked the portal last night. After I see today’s assignment, I start to think about what’s my goals for this year, and how many goals I have achieved. However, I find out that I have achieved most of the goals which I assigned for myself from the beginning of this year. Therefore, this blog give me a very good chance to summarize what I achieve this year, and what I can keep working on during the rest of the year. Because of the shortage of the time I have tonight and I have kind of the same topics for both my English and Writing class, I decide to combine both of them and use the rest of time to prepared for my chemistry and Algebra test tomorrow. You can’t imagine how I felt while I knew I have three tests on Halloween with my costume. That’s the mixture of sadness, nervous, disappointed, exhausted which is hard to define by human’s words.

Go back to the main purpose of this blog. First, about the progress I made, I think I improve my Grammar and learn lots of new ways on writing. Although, I know I still have “tons of mistakes” which I don’t notice, but compare with what I have from the starting of this year, It become is much better. For example, I know different ways to write paper for essays, blogs, short stories and book reviews. Through that my logic and connection for the paper has improved, and the class we have about grammar is helpful as well. Become a teacher to teach other students grammar can help myself to find out the mistake which I don’t realize as usual. Also I learned how to read, understand and write about both poems and novels. We have lots of discussions on poems and novels which really help me to understand and give me inspirations on my writing. We even use the words which the poet use to write our own poem that is so much fun and make me start to enjoy writing, but not seeing as a burden and extra work for school.

Finish talking about the goals I achieved and I still need to talk about things I need to work on in the rest of the year. As what I said, grammar is still a big problem for me which block my way to a good paper. Therefore I will keep working on fixing the grammar problems I have, and I am going to work on accumulate more vocab. The reason is that when I am writing a paper I always need to check the dictionary on my phone to find out the word I want. 

As you can see, that’s my goal for the rest of the year and I will keep working on what I have achieved this quarter, because I believed that there is never best but better.

What is it talking about?

My thought about the poem

It is a hard time for me two pick a poem to talk about, because I like most of them. Therefore, instead of talking about the one I like the most, I choose the one which is easier for me to understand. As a result of having more things to talk about, I choose "Ducks".

"Ducks" tell us a story about a girl who's nationality is Irag. She has been separate from her families because of the war between Irag and Iran, so she moved to America. There are three ducks in her house where is in countryside and writer use lots of description on what do ducks do and their relationships.

In my opinion, writer shows two things to us which she think we should know. First, we know that people from Middle East is educated and love to study, but not the terrorists and barbaric people which most of Americans think from 

"In Iraq a book never had one owner – it had ten.

Lucky books, to be held often

and gently, by so many hands.

Later in American libraries she felt sad

for books no one ever checked out."

This quote tells us that most of people in Middle East love to read and the stereotype which given by social media is wrong. Not all the people in Middle East are violence and estremlists, but most of them are normal people like we are who also love to read. Therefore I think writer wants to telling the truth about her country in a way of poem.

Second, I guess that writer use three ducks to show us the relationship between America, Irag and Iran. America is that female duck, and Irag and Iran are the male ducks. The male ducks which  doesn't like by the female duck will be depressed and it is not always the same male duck. That seems to show me that the country which America support will become stronger and give another county a hard time, but America won't support the same country forever. America wants to make a balance between them and keeping the war which won't let one the country be annexed.

As you can see, that is my thought about the poem "Duck".

In my opinion, Nye write poem 19 Varieties of Gazelle as a response to 911 is because at that time people in Americans have discriminate on people from middle east; They think that people from there are always terrorists, so it is really a hard time for people from middle east who live in America. Therefore writer want to use poems to tell the people in America that people from middle east are kind and peaceful; They like fig trees, believe in God Alah who don't allowed killing and make people be nice to each other. Not all of them are terrorists and extremists. Also writer use examples on herselves and her family members to show the Arab culture to readers which shows that Arab people are kind and love nature. For example from " My father and the fig tree" writer's father said that the figs are the gifts from Alah. From this line we know that Arab culture is like other culture all around world. They have their belif and their favourite things, but not a place which is full of terrorists. Also writer's father told writer many stories about Arab culture, such as "a true Arab know how to catch a fly in his hands." and the story about Joha. As you can see, writer use these examples to show reader about that Arab culture is peaceful, but not dangerous to people. She want people in other countries know more about their culture, and she wants other people to judge them based on truth but not the stereotype and the negative information on TV and Movies which gives people an idea that people from middle east are all terrorists. What writer want to show readers are simillar to another book "Persepolics" in that book the writer also use a true story on herselves to show people around world about the truth happened in her country. She want to show that most of people in her country is kind and peaceful which is simillar to which Nye want to show reader.
As you can see, Nye use poem to show people that most of people in middle east are kind and peaceful, and she want people all around world to get rid of the prejudice and stereotype on middle east people. She gives a chance to let people all around world know more about culture and truth about people in middle east through her poems.

Answer

In my opinion, grandmother is a kind person, for example she follow writer and take care of her when she was sick. Also she is calm person, for example in the poem said " My grandmother's voice says nothing can surprise her."

In my opinion

I think these lines express writer's father's feeling of home. The fig tree become a symbol of motherland to her, because he can't go back anymore. Therefore writer said that' what he always own just like his hometown in the last line.

What is writer talking about

A different Iran

From news and movie Iran always gives me a prejudice which is a place full of violence and terrorists. However, after I read Persepolis which is a book written by a Iranian called Marjane Satrapi, I recognize this country and find out that people in Iran is similar to all of us around world. The people in Iran are kind and innocent. The reason that Iran give other people a abnormal thinking is because their government. 

Therefore, I think writer is writing this book for people who’s similar to me that have a prejudice to Iran. She wants people from other country to treat Iranian equally and kindly. According to her experience in Vietnam we know that Iran people have been treat badly in other country. For example, When Marjane said she is an Iranian, other people don’t want to make friend with her and make bad comments on her. That let Marjane become self-abased and lie to others about her nationality, which makes a negative affect in Marjane’s life. Marjane start to smoking and abandon herself after that event. Therefore I think Marjane wants to transform an idea to her audience that there are no difference between Iranian and other people. 

In my opinion, I think that writer achieve her purpose, because after I read this book all my stereotype about Iran has run out of my brain and I know that Iran people are nice and good. However, this is just my opinion about this book. I don’t know how others feel after they read this book. Also It is extremely hard for people to change their stereotype, because the definition of ward stereotype is “ a conventional or formulaic conception or image”, so it can not change in one day. Nonetheless, there are lots of people who have never read this book but also have these kind of stereotype, such as most of the people in China. Because of Persepolis is published in English and French, people in China won;t have interests on it and may not able to read them and this is normal for people all around the world. 

To sum up, I think writer wants to change the stereotype on Iranian for people all around world. However, I don’t think she achieve this idea, because of the limits on language and people’s interests.

Second, God become a guider for Marjane which gives her an idea of freedom and equality which affect her a lot in the future. It is really interesting that God looks like a white person which is different from which people in Iran is, and I think that is writer’s hint about how Marjane think about Iran in a view of more western way. “It was funny to see how much Marx and God looked like each other. Though Marx’s hair is a bit curler.”From this quote we understand that God gives Marjane a opener view of the world; She accept thinking from the western country, such as Marx. She never limited herself by what other told her what she always do is question what she knows and find out the truth by herself. For example, page 33 show us how Marjane find out the biggest problem in Iran is the difference in social classes. I think that these kind of ability and ideas of inquirer is inculcate by God who gives her a more western ways of thinking.

To sum up, God play a very important role in Marjane’s life which is a guider, a friend and a grandpa who also gives lots of support to her. What really interesting to talk about is How God appear in Marjane’s mind? By her experience in French school or the dream of being a prophet?

Therefore, I think God is Marjane's guide in her daily life, as well as filling the hole in her family, such as grandpa and friend.

Persepolis: An interesting book about Iran

Persepolis, written by Marjane Aatrapi is a book talking about things happened in Iran in a form of comics. According to Wikipedia it is a autobiography about Marjane’s life in Iran  “It was published by L'Association in four volumes, from 2000 to 2007.”(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persepolis_(comics)#Publication_history)Also the story has been recompose to film and bring to the screen at 2007. I really like to read this book, mostly because the form of comics attract my eyes and I have finished the book since I got it. Therefore I think Persepolis is a very interesting book that uses form of comics to tell the truth of Iranian history from a view of little girl.

In the story, which is the first volume of the book called the story of a childhood, told us what happened in Iran when Marjane is 6 years old and 14 years old. She experience the overthrow of the King, the Islamic revolution, and the war between Irag and Iran. Also she felt the sadness from the pass of her uncle. From that time she give up her dream to be a prophet, because she felt betray. The God she believed and loved didn’t help her when she face the difficulties. Instead of the God Marjane’s grandmother became the one who teach Marjane about the world and how to live as a person.

One of the reasons that I really like this book is because it told me the truth of the Iranian, what I used to know is that Iran is a place full of terrorists oil and wars. However, from this book I recognition Iran and noticed that most of people in Iran is same as us. They want freedom and parties. There want fashion clothes and listen to the rock music. For example, from 130 to 131 Marjane wear fashion clothes and buy music disc from the small retailer. Unfortunately, She has been catch by the religious people. Therefore it subvert my views of Iran and I am really interested about that.

Second, it really attract my eyes by using the form of comics to write a book, and talk about it from a view of little girl. It helps me to understand better as a international student, and I never felt boring about this book. Also reading from a view of little is quite fun. Such as in page 52, Marjane imagine how people look like when they have been cut into pieces, it look like her doll. A cruel things, but let people feel satire when talking by a little girl.

To sum up. Persepolis is very interesting book written with comics and talking about Iranian history in a view of little girl. I really suggest people to read it, they will see a different Iran which they never know.
